To All my Dear Friends and Supporters...

I have been raising a ruckus around these parts now for almost 28 years and I plan to continue. This scrapbook is a way for everyone to get more acquainted with me; my community involvement, my concerns, my cares. We will be gradually adding more here so stay tuned.

Love,

Tom Lynch

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my friends called and told me I should be placing articles and information about my most recent involvements first and work back. I think this is a good idea and I will start doing more recent stuff first. I have a wonderful family, a successful business, and I've become a homeowner (home-moaner ;0). I've been twice elected to the Russian River Redevelopment Oversight Committee helping oversee millions of dollars of tax moneys for good local endeavors. I've been appointed by Supervisor Reilly to serve on the Sonoma County Economic Development Board to help develop jobs and businesses in the area. I am proud of my past activism but equally proud of my involvement in present endeavours to make our community better.

If you look at some of the other political websites out there they tend to be very general and vague. There are a few photos and paragraphs about who they are and what they believe in. My website will not be like this; I am not a lite-beer commercial catering to the lowest common denominator comsumer lest we offend anybody. I want people to get to know me...where have I been, where am I now, and where do I think we should go from here. Paid consultants from both sides think this is a mistake. What do you think??

Community Involvement

Russian River Redevelopment Oversight Committee

Redevelopment is a means through "tax increment" funding that we are able to keep and use locally, any additional property taxes derived from increased property values within the "project area" toward improving the community (I know, it's a mouthful, and I wrote this so it may be unclear ;0). I was elected five years ago to the RRROC and have been the chairman two years and vice-chairman  two years, I presently serve as vice-chairman of the Housing sub-committee and am also on the Parks sub-committee.

I have been deeply involved with many issues through the Oversight Committee.

-We have given over two hundred thousand dollars to Don McEnhill with Riverkeeper to counter Sonoma County Water Agencies low flow plan for the Russian River and to create  native plant restoration and an interpretive park along the River in Guerneville.

-We have funded projects to replace polluting woodstoves with new EPA approved ones, financed eco-tourism efforts, implemented rehabilitation loans for seniors and low-income households and are presently working with Burbank Housing to create a 50 unit low-cost apartment project; as well as a 30-40 unit "sweat equity" owner occupied project in the Armstrong Valley.

-We have funded rebuilding of the Koret Club in Monte Rio into a new multi-function community building that can also be used as a conference facility and have funded over $250,000 toward Riverside Park improvements with additional funds forthcoming for a large stage for concert series and events.

I have learned much from my fellow committee members and enjoy the process of using redevelopment funds to improve the River area.

Here are some articles from Sonoma West posted over the last couple of years covering redevelopment issues along the Russian River. (Click the link and after reading the article press  the back button on your browser to return here).

Theatre

All the world's a stage,
all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
                                                            Shakespeare

I have been involved with theatre in Sonoma County for many years. Beginning in 1981 with River Players in Duncans Mills, River Repertory Theatre Company, Main Street Theater in Sebastopol, Cinnabar Theatre in Petaluma, SRJC and Actors Theatre in Santa Rosa. My wife Sveta worked for the Russian Drama Theatre Company in Odessa Ukraine for 18 years until our marriage in 2000. Theatre has been good to me...

I even made a brief foray to Hollywood one rainy winter in the early 80's to try to make it . Much of my political and environmental activism starting in the mid-80's into the early 90's was "street theater" to draw attention to issues and try to affect positive change. Some of the most rewarding and exciting times of my life were on stage having been directed by Sharon Hawthorne of Graton, Scott Kersnar of Guerneville, the late Regan Durrant, Michael Tabib, Johnathan Graham and more. My last stage performance was a play directed by Micheal Fontaine with Cinnabar Theatre in Petaluma in 1992.

Theatre helped me appreciate my own uniqueness. I have always been somewhat self-conscious and theatre enabled me to learn to accept myself for who I am. I must confess though I would sometimes get concerned when I went on stage and the audience would start laughing before I uttered a line ;0).

Manure Man

It began innocently enough as a simple attempt to draw attention to the problem of Santa Rosa's wastewater in the Russian River; a one time excursion to get arrested and use the publicity to encourage people throughout Sonoma County to attend a Regional Water Quality Control Board hearing at Luther Burbank Center. I rented a tractor and broadcast manure spreader from the late Warren Dutton, owner of Sebastopol Tractor; filled it with cow manure and parked it at Sebastopolian Larry Harper's farm rental at the Miller Dairy on Occidental Road. (...more to come ;-)

The smarter half, wife Sveta; our Queen mother Laima, moi and Yekaterina (2yrs. 6months).

Looong story that I will add to soon. Basically these illustrations are part of a comic book drawn by noted artist Tom Yeates from Jenner. Achieving some dubious notoriety in January of 1986 for covering four city blocks of downtown Santa Rosa with cow manure, tossed from a broadcast manure spreader; in protest of their illegal dumping of wastewater in the Russian River; I was honored to be included in a comic book. (...however much to my chagrin artist Tom Yeates made my neck bigger !!!! ;oP )
